Women's Soft Ball Cricket
It may be Softball but our Ladies play hard! With a few practice sessions, Northop CC took up the cricket challenge to learn & play each other at an ECB initiated Softball Cricket Festival. With umpire support from Cricket Wales’ Ian Martin and our own Paul Roberts, we had a fantastic day. Full kitbag was supplied by the ECB and on arrival everyone received a free Team T shirt. Prosecco prizes were also supplied by Cricket Wales & NCC.
There were 5 teams of 8 ladies:
- The Gin and Tonics (captain Claire Thompson)
- The Flintoffs (off Flint) (captained by Kathryn Poynton)
- The Dark Knights (captained by Vicky Knight)
- The Maiden Overs (captained by Lyndsey Roberts)
- Fliss‘s Finest (captained by Felicity Hodgkinson)
All different ages (but it’s not etiquette to mention a ladies age!) Not all were sporty either. Some made some new friends and got stuck in to play each other on a round robin basis to find out who were the first Northop CC Champion Softball team.
They enjoyed learning the skills of batting and bowling. There was tough competitiveness from The Flintoffs and there were tactics, injuries and strategies afoot, broke off by the odd drink and a burger from Henry’s ably cooked BBQ. But in the end The Gin and Tonics won the Trophy fair and square (well I think it was fair!) Prosecco and chocolates were shared by everyone, well deserved after a tough afternoon of sport. It may not be the last of the ladies.
After a few weeks short break, plans are in place to get practicing again and enter the Northop Hall Festival on Sept 2nd. So if any young (or older) ladies want to join the fun >> email
