Our chosen charity for 2019 is The Walton Centre.

In July 2018 one of our members, Mary Ashley-Beaver, was transferred by ambulance as an emergency admission to the Walton Intensive Care unit with a brain haemorrhage. The surgeons operated within 30 minutes of her arrival in the middle of the night and fought alongside the nurses to save her life. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be a positive outcome and Mary passed away 3 days later.

During this difficult time the ICU provided accommodation for her husband and son in a special charity funded accommodation block. The nursing staff went way beyond expectations in delivering amazing support both physically and emotionally during these difficult 3 days and subsequently some weeks later.

It's only with charitable donations that this fantastic high specification onsite facility can exist, supporting close family members within a few metres giving easy 24 hr access to the ICU.

The Walton Centre in Liverpool is a specialist neuroscience hospital treating over 100,000 patients a year with conditions including head and spinal trauma injuries; tumours of the nervous system; epilepsy; multiple sclerosis and motor neurone disease. For further information regarding The Walton Centre, please click on the following link >> https://www.thewaltoncentre.nhs.uk
