Northop Under 9's have again won the Indoor League held during the Winter at Argoed High School, winning all their games in the process. Congratulations to all who took part and lets see if we can carry on the success during the summer. Well done to Roy Pierce and those who helped him.

Northop U9 team crowned NEW indoor league champions 2009 - 2010

Report for match v Halkyn Tuesday 27/4/2010.

Northop 301/1 (296) beat Halkyn 244/10 (194) – Northop win by 102 Runs

So to the final game of the season and Northop in the comfort zone having already won the Under 9’s Indoor League whatever the result of the final game against Halkyn.

Halkyn batted first and although there was a reluctance to run they did manage singles off the side walls and a few fours which enabled them to reach 244. However all the Northop bowlers pitched in with wickets and the Halkyn score after deducting the 10 wickets lost was reduced to 194. Harry Hayes took 3 wickets, 2 each for Luke Forsyth and Luke Price, and 1 each for Ryan Williams, Ben Beaver and Tom Sudder. There were also catches for Harry Hayes, Luke Price and Luke Forsyth.

When it was Northops turn to bat everyone pitched in with runs - Ben Beaver top scorer with 25 and Tom Sudder scored 16 and only 1 wicket lost – Ryan Williams bowled out. Double figures scores for Harry Hayes and Luke Price completed the win. A 100% record in this competition for Northop!

So well done to all and Winners Trophy and Medals were presented to Northop after the game by Phil Evans.

A good omen for the coming Summer Outdoor Season!

Report for match v Pontblyddyn Tuesday 20/4/2010.

Northop 274/1 (269) beat Pontblyddyn 266/4 (246) – Northop win by 23 Runs

Closest game of the season so far but the 100% record still holds for Northop with only 1 game remaining – next Tuesday versus Halkyn.

Northop batted first and it was hard to score runs as Pontblyddyn fielding and bowling was good. However apart from 1 Run Out - a direct hit from a throw from 10 feet by the wicket keeper - Northop lost no other wickets. Most runs scored off the back wall for 4 and High Scores of 19 for Josh Andrady, 14 for Ben Beaver and 13 for Henry Dowd.

The onus when Pontblyddyn batted was to restrict runs and wides/no balls and the boys responded well. Pick of the bowlers was Henry Dowd with 3 wickets, Tom Sudder took 1 wicket, and a miserly spell of just 2 runs of 12 balls from Harry Hayes. A few of the bowlers being extremely unlucky not to take more wickets – Harry, Josh and Henry missing the wicket by an inch or two on a number of occasions – the ball passing between bat and pad. Josh Andrady also took 2 catches and Northop also dropped 2 admittedly difficult catches.

So probably the hardest game of the season so far and a confident win for Northop.

Report for match v Buckley Tuesday 13/4/2010.

Northop 307/2 (297) beat Buckley 227/12 (167) – Northop win by 130 runs

Another easy win for Northop by 130 runs.

Northop batted first and despite some wayward bowling by Buckley still managed to score at a steady rate with 7 fours and high scores of 14 for Ben Beaver and Luke Price with 11. Northop lost 2 wickets – Tom Sudder and Luke Forsyth (both bowled). The only real negative was some bad calling a couple of times leaving batsmen stranded – no run outs but against a better team could have cost us. Maybe we can work on that at the next coaching session on Friday 23rd April.

Northop started off slightly rusty with each bowler in their first over maybe showing the effects of a 3 week break from training! However bowling was still tight and disciplined with only a few wides being bowled. Bowling improved in the last 6 overs and they really clicked and 12 wickets tumbled with Ben Beaver taking 4, Harry Hayes 3 and 2 each for Luke Forsyth and Luke Price and 1 for Tom Sudder.

So a 100% record so far but a big game next week against Pontblyddyn - Tuesday 27/4/2010.

Report for match v Halkyn Tuesday 16/3/2010.

Northop 288/2 (278) V Halkyn 235/7 (200) - Northop win by 78 Runs

I was not at this game due to work commitments but from the match scorecard and my son’s observations here is a brief synopsis.

Northop again batted well despite many wides and no balls being bowled (the story of the season so far!). Tom Sudder was the outstanding batsman with 23 runs scored including 5 fours. Northop lost 2 wickets – Luke Forsyth (Bowled) and Ben Beaver (Hit Wicket).

When it came to Northop’s turn to Bowl, once again everyone pitched in with 2 wickets each for Ben Beaver and Matthew Mullarkey and 1 each for Harry Hayes, Tom Sudder and Luke Forsyth with catches by Luke Price, Ben Beaver and Matthew Mullarkey.

Another good all round performance with everyone bowling and batting well. Everyone can bowl tight even if not taking wickets; the guys even if not scoring highly when batting tend to protect the score by not getting out – which is very admirable. Some good lessons here for future years – Tight bowling and Don’t get out (Geoff Boycott and Mike Atherton would be pleased!).

Report for match v Buckley Friday 5/3/2010.

Northop 326/1 (321) beat Buckley 239/5 (214) – Northop win by 107 runs

A relatively easy win for Northop by 107 runs.

Buckley batted first and Harry Hayes bowled the first batsman out 4th ball. Bowling was disciplined with few wides being bowled and Buckley only managing to score at a slow rate. Ben Beaver followed up with a wicket (Bowled) in the 6th over. Another wicket for Harry Hayes (Bowled) in the 3rd ball of his second over cost Buckley more points. Pitching in with a wicket each were Tom Sudder and Luke Price (both Bowled) which saw Buckley’s score curtailed to 214 including minus points for wickets lost.

When Northop batted the first pair of Harry Hayes and Luke Forsyth faced a lot of wide balls which were left to gain the 2 runs penalty and no balls which didn’t reach the batsmen.

A similar fate faced the second pair of Ryan Williams and Tom Sudder, however again taking the wides and no balls the scoreboard ticked over nicely with only one wicket being lost by Northop in the whole game (Ryan Williams bowled out).

Bowling improved in the last 4 over’s by the Buckley bowlers being allowed to bowl closer to the wicket which gave the last pair of Ben Beaver and Luke Price something finally to hit scoring 17 and 16 respectively.

So another win but a big game next against the stiff opposition of Pontblyddyn.

Northop 293/0 (293) beat Northophall  266/7 (231) – Tuesday 9/2/2010

Another good win for Northop against Northop Hall by 62 runs.

Northop Hall batted first and their batting was much improved over last week. Some sloppy fielding by Northop resulted in a few byes and extra runs but 2 wickets each for Matthew Mullarkey and Ben Beaver saw Northop take control. Ryan Williams took his first wicket for Northop in competition and Luke Price and Harry Hayes pitched in with a wicket each. The bowling was straight with only 6 Wides or No Balls delivered. Northop Hall were restricted to 231 at the end of their innings.

Northop again found it difficult to score due to the large number of wides being bowled (22) which resulted in an extra 44 points. A good batting display meant Northop lost no wickets in their innings and Tom Sudder (11) and Ben Beaver (19) saw Northop home with a final total of 293.
